Default display

You do not need to learn the characters first.

The default for a new user is Concise. It centers the model and work state, so Muse names or story context never block the first task.

Local first

Your work stays on your device.

Conversations, projects, and work records are stored locally. When you run AI, the selected prompt and attachments may be sent directly to the provider you chose. SCALAR does not automatically collect product analytics or conversation content.

Is it free right now?

Yes. The 2026.819.1 public alpha requires no purchase or license key. External AI providers may still charge for API usage.

Can I start without an API key?

You can install the app and choose local work first. When a step needs an AI call, the connection guide opens while preserving your draft and return point.

Are my conversations stored on a SCALAR server?

SCALAR does not automatically store product analytics or conversation content. When you run AI, selected content may be sent directly to the provider you connected.

Are the Muses being removed?

No. They are no longer the default public face, but you can optionally show them over the same execution through Together View.

Which operating systems are supported?

The current public alpha supports Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 11 x64. The download page explains Windows SmartScreen guidance and file verification.
